Bola Ahmed Tinubu Renews Tenure of Ahmed Abubakar Audi as NSCDC Boss
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the appointment of Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a fresh five-year term.
According to a State House press release signed by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the reappointment took effect from Friday, February 27, 2026.
Dr Audi, who was first appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, completed his initial tenure last Friday while participating in activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
He is expected to resume duties on Monday under a renewed mandate.
President Tinubu tasked the NSCDC boss with repositioning the Corps to play a more strategic role in national security.
The President urged Audi to strengthen the service’s operational capacity, especially as the police intensify efforts to tackle banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism across the country.
“President Tinubu charged Audi to reposition the service to play a more significant role in the country’s security, especially as the police refocus on their primary responsibility of protecting citizens from bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists,” the statement said.
